Strengthening Somalia’s Future with a Resilient and Capable Cabinet

Building a Cabinet that Reflects the Values of Peace, Justice, and Development As the Peace, Justice, and Development Party (PJDP) prepares to lead Somalia into a new era of progress and stability, one of the most critical responsibilities we face is the formation of a capable, diverse, and effective cabinet. A government’s cabinet is the engine that drives national policies and shapes the future of the country. In this blog post, I will share my vision for a Somali cabinet that reflects our core values of peace, justice, and development, and discuss how this body will serve the people and strengthen our nation.

1. A Cabinet Built on Competence and Integrity

At the heart of any successful government is the ability to deliver tangible results for its people. My vision for Somalia’s future includes a cabinet composed of individuals who are:
  • Competent: Each cabinet member must bring extensive expertise and a proven track record in their respective fields. Whether in education, healthcare, infrastructure, or finance, we will ensure that the right people are in place to drive meaningful progress.
  • Ethical: Integrity must be the cornerstone of our governance. The cabinet must represent the highest ethical standards, ensuring transparency, accountability, and a commitment to serving the people above all else. Corruption will have no place in our administration.
  • Inclusive: Somalia is a diverse nation, and our cabinet must reflect that diversity. From women to youth, rural to urban, we will ensure that all regions and communities are represented in government. Inclusivity will be a key principle in building a government that serves everyone.

2. A Cabinet for Peace: Prioritizing Security and Stability

Somalia’s path to lasting peace has been long and difficult, but the journey is far from over. Our cabinet will prioritize peacebuilding efforts and national security with a focus on:
  • Enhancing Security Forces: We will invest in professionalizing and equipping Somalia’s security forces, ensuring they are capable of defending the nation, protecting civilians, and maintaining law and order.
  • Conflict Resolution: We will empower our Ministry of Peace and National Reconciliation to engage in inclusive dialogues with all regions and clans. Conflict resolution will be achieved through negotiation, justice, and rebuilding trust between communities.
  • Strengthening Local Governance: Local administrations will be key players in ensuring security at the community level. We will work closely with regional and district leaders to create environments where peace can thrive.

3. Justice and Human Rights: A Cabinet Committed to Fairness

Justice and the rule of law are foundational to building a just society. Our cabinet will:
  • Reform the Judiciary: Ensuring an independent and efficient judiciary that delivers timely and impartial justice for all citizens will be a priority. Our cabinet will work to strengthen judicial institutions, train judges, and ensure access to justice across the country.
  • Combat Corruption: We will establish an anti-corruption body that will work across all levels of government to ensure public funds are used appropriately. Public officials will be held accountable for their actions, ensuring trust in government institutions.
  • Protect Human Rights: Our cabinet will uphold Somalia’s commitment to human rights, ensuring that the rights of all individuals—particularly women, children, and marginalized communities—are protected and promoted.

4. Economic Development: A Cabinet Focused on Growth and Jobs

Economic development is central to our vision of transforming Somalia. Our cabinet will prioritize:
  • Job Creation: By investing in industries such as agriculture, fisheries, infrastructure, and technology, we will create employment opportunities for Somalia’s growing population, especially the youth.
  • Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs): We will focus on empowering entrepreneurs and small businesses by providing access to credit, training, and business support services. SMEs are the backbone of our economy, and they will drive job growth and innovation.
  • Infrastructure Development: From modernizing our transportation networks to improving access to electricity and digital infrastructure, our cabinet will focus on projects that connect Somalia to the world and improve the quality of life for all citizens.

5. Education and Health: Building a Resilient Society

A healthy and educated population is the foundation of a strong nation. Our cabinet will focus on:
  • Education for All: We will ensure universal access to quality education, focusing on improving school infrastructure, teacher training, and curriculum development. Education will be a tool for economic empowerment and national unity.
  • Healthcare Access: Healthcare is a right, not a privilege. Our cabinet will work to expand healthcare services, improve medical infrastructure, and ensure that all Somali citizens have access to affordable and quality healthcare.

6. A Cabinet that Embraces Technology and Innovation

In the digital age, technology is key to national development. Our cabinet will:
  • Invest in ICT: We will invest in Somalia’s information and communication technology (ICT) sector, creating opportunities for digital entrepreneurs, improving government services, and ensuring that every Somali has access to the digital economy.
  • Support Innovation: We will foster a culture of innovation by supporting research and development, encouraging partnerships between universities and the private sector, and creating innovation hubs that will drive Somalia’s next wave of technological advancements.

7. Promoting Environmental Sustainability

Somalia’s development must be sustainable, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the same resources and opportunities. Our cabinet will prioritize:
  • Sustainable Agriculture: We will support farming practices that protect the environment, improve yields, and ensure food security for our growing population.
  • Protecting Natural Resources: From managing water resources to conserving biodiversity, we will implement policies that safeguard Somalia’s natural heritage.
  • Climate Change Adaptation: Somalia is vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Our cabinet will focus on climate resilience projects, especially in rural communities, to help farmers and herders adapt to changing environmental conditions.

8. An Open and Transparent Government

A key part of our vision for the cabinet is ensuring that the government remains open and accountable to the people. Our cabinet will:
  • Engage with Citizens: We will create platforms for citizens to communicate with their government, voice their concerns, and actively participate in decision-making processes.
  • Regular Reporting and Transparency: Our cabinet will ensure that government performance is regularly reported to the public, with clear metrics and outcomes. Transparency will be at the heart of how we govern, ensuring that citizens know how public resources are used.
  • Public Consultation on Key Policies: Major policy decisions will be made after consultation with stakeholders, civil society, and the Somali public. We will make sure that every Somali has a voice in the nation’s direction.
A Vision for Somalia’s Future The cabinet we build will reflect the diverse needs of Somalia, grounded in the values of peace, justice, and development. By selecting a team of dedicated and experienced leaders, we will ensure that our government delivers on its promises and works tirelessly to improve the lives of all Somali citizens. Together, with the right leadership and commitment, we can lead Somalia toward a brighter, more prosperous future—one that provides opportunity, security, and dignity for all.
